Buddy Lunch

Today we visited our buddy class in Room 3.  It was fun to spend time with them and we were really thankful the pouring rain stopped so we could get there without getting soaked!  We even got to each our lunch together outside on the new picnic tables.

Easter Egg Hunt

On our blustery, stormy, last day of term we had our own Easter egg hunt.  We each made four paper Easter eggs and then we mixed them all up and hid them around the room.  We looked for our eggs - some of us found all four, and some of us may find a few more when we come back for Term 2!

Reasons to Celebrate

Great writing boys!  Can't wait to read what you write during the holidays.

Congratulations Shivali on winning the PE Olympic Schools award for this term.

We are authors

We have written our very own joke book.  Each of us wrote a joke to add to our book.  We think our jokes are hilarious!

We rewrote our favourite fairy tales, then Mrs Nichol typed them out for us.  Next we used the textured art paper we had painted and created our own Eric Carle inspired illustration for our stories.  Finally we added details using colouring pencils and/or felt tips.  Our stories are now in a big book for us to read in our classroom.

Maths

We have been working with position words and geometry.

We had fun using magnets on our whiteboard to learn about position.  We used heaps of Mrs Nichol's magnets to put on the board to show the different words.  It was fun!

We have also talked about shapes.  We took a shape from our shape box and had to find something in the classroom that was that shape.  We were pretty creative in what we found!

Congratulations, Au Revoir and other Week 10 Highlights

Mrs de Groot is retiring and moving to France.  On Friday we had a celebration assembly to wish her Au Revoir!  Everyone dressed in red, white and blue - the colours of the French flag. We even learned a song in French to sing to Mrs de Groot, Frere Jacques.

More superstar writers sharing their writing from home.  Such wonderful stories!  Thanks for sharing!

The children love playing with these homemade blocks, so I thought I'd share a picture with you as it may provide an idea for a home activity during the holidays. I bought a pack of kitchen sponges and cut them into strips. The children use them to build.  A nice, quiet activity that they love!  :D

Congratulations to Bianca on achieving her Independence Certificate!  Well done!
Creating Autumn art.  First we collected a variety of Autumn leaves.  In one of the four quarters of our paper we chose a way to write the word 'Autumn' that would look interesting and colourful.  Then we put our leaves under another quarter of our paper and rubbed over them with crayons.  In the third quarter we sketched 3 different leaves and coloured them in.  In the final quarter we used PVA glue to paste our leaves onto our posters.

Congratulations to Shivali for receiving Pizza with the Principal this term.  Well done Shivali!!

Parent Teacher Conferences

I wanted to share with the parents in my class one of the highlights of the Parent Teacher Conferences for me.  I was so excited when the parents shared with me how much their children are enjoying writing at home.  I liked hearing the two stories of two different boys and how their parents said that on the weekend, after going out for a family event, they came home and disappeared to their rooms for about an hour, emerging when they had finished writing stories about their outing.  It is so exciting to hear of children developing a love for writing.  I am enjoying when the children bring their home written stories to school to share with me and the class.  Thank you for supporting their learning at home and encouraging them by providing the materials they need to write!  Keep it up!

More reasons to write

Charlotte left this week for a trip to Ireland.  We looked at our classroom globe and at our classroom map to see how far she has to travel.  She told us she is going to go on three airplanes and sleep three times before she gets to Ireland. That is a long way to travel.  She is going to write about her holiday and share it with the class when she returns. We look forward to hearing all about her journey!

Anna, Albie and Kahn all shared some of their amazing writing that they did at home!
Keep it coming! We love to hear your stories.

Autumn Writing

The best things to write about are the things we experience.

On Monday we went and played in the Autumn leaves behind the Senior playground.  We looked at the different colours and shapes of the leaves, we walked through them and listened to the noises they made, we felt them when we gathered them up and threw them high in the air, and we even smelled them.  The only sense we didn't use was our sense of taste. We decided that we didn't need to use all five of our senses for this writing experience!

When we got back to class we brainstormed all the interesting words to describe our experience so that we'd be ready to write on Tuesday. On Tuesday Mrs Michell taught us and we wrote some amazing stories using lots of great describing words.  Some of our class went with Mrs Nichol to learn how to blog and they wrote about Autumn as well.  Their blogs are posted below.

Have a look at the full album of autumn fun on our google site photo album page -> HERE.

Learning how to blog

Today 8 children from Rooms 25, 26 and 27 worked with Mrs Nichol to learn how to write a blog post on an iPad.  Our topic for writing was Autumn.  First the children took a photo of an autumn leaf behind Room 31 using their iPad.

Next Mrs Nichol showed the children how to open the Blogger app on the iPad, how to begin a new post, how to add a title and photo, and then how to begin writing.  When their stories were finished, the children learnt how to add a label for their name so that their parents can easily find the work that they have done on their class blog.

Mrs Maingay came along to help us and to learn how to blog too.
We are pretty proud of our blog posts.  You can see Room 26's posts following this post on our class blog.  If you'd like to read the posts from Room 27 and Room 25, you can click on the link to their class blogs in the blog roll to the right of these posts.
