Pattern hunt

Today we went looking for patterns in the playground. The children used their iPads to photograph the patterns they found. When we came back inside they took turns using their iPads to show their group's pictures on the TV using the Apple TV. We will look at more of the playground patterns on Friday and share some of our findings with you.

Patterns

We are learning about patterns, types of patterns and patterns around us.

We looked around our classroom and found all kinds of interesting and unexpected patterns.  Someone noticed how the Guy Fawkes pictures and the fish were an ABAB pattern; someone else noticed how the pegs holding our dioramas were an AABBCCDD pattern; someone else noticed how the chairs around the table were in a pattern.

Next we used anything we wanted from in the classroom to try to make our own ABAB pattern and then an ABCABC pattern.  We had fun coming up with other types of patterns too.

 

 

 
  

End of Term News

We sure had a busy last few days of term!

One of the exciting things that happened was receiving a very special letter in the mail! 

During our Famous New Zealanders week we wrote letters to four different famous NZers.  The children chose to write to John Key, Brian Turner, Jackie Thomas or Joy Cowley.  This week we received a letter back from Joy Cowley. We were all very excited! She even wrote personal responses to the four children who wrote to her.

Congratulations to Shivali, Neve and James on receiving their 5 Goals in Writing.  Well done!

We are so lucky to have Mrs Ikiua join our class for 5 weeks as our student teacher.

Congratulations to our class for collecting the most money of all of the Year One classes for the I Spy fundraiser.

Our class received a gift bag full of books and a soccer ball!

The Circles maths group are learning to break numbers and add them back together. They have certainly been enjoying challenging their brains!

Our New Library

We are enjoying using our new library.  

We are especially excited about seeing our art work up in the library!

My favourite thing on the playground... By Bonnie

My favourite thing on the playground .is  the Tightrope  because it wobbles a lot.My friends that i play with are Sophie and Bianca and me. I Have a Lot of fun but same times I fall off the tightrope.

Congratulations!

Seven children in our class earned their 5 Goals in Writing this week and made visits to Mrs Harder and Mr Lomas.  Mr Lomas gave them each fabulous big gold stickers to congratulate them on their hard work. Well done Luke, Liam, Kahn, David, London, Isla and Bonnie!  Keep on writing!

Bonnie and Holly wrote stories at home and brought them to school to share.  Bonnie wrote 4 chapters of a book, just like the chapter book we are reading in class.  She even gave each chapter a title!  Well done girls.

Spelling fun

We are learning to spell a very important word!

We are collaging the letters and writing a sentence using the word 'because'.

We also spell it aloud in a fun way to help us remember how to spell it correctly.
