Santa's Stuck!!

We had fun writing and creating today.  First we watched half of the Youtube movie, When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney.  You can view the video below, or click on this link.  Then we wrote our own ending to the story, how we thought Santa would get out.  After we finished writing, we coloured our brick fireplace and then made Santa stuck in our chimney.

Assembly

Today in our school assembly Bianca, Albie and Shannyn shared what they enjoyed about Year One.

Jenna, Genevieve, James and Luke also shared what participation meant from our Run, Jump, Throw day.

Patterns

We are learning about patterns, types of patterns and patterns around us.

We looked around our classroom and found all kinds of interesting and unexpected patterns.  Someone noticed how the Guy Fawkes pictures and the fish were an ABAB pattern; someone else noticed how the pegs holding our dioramas were an AABBCCDD pattern; someone else noticed how the chairs around the table were in a pattern.

Next we used anything we wanted from in the classroom to try to make our own ABAB pattern and then an ABCABC pattern.  We had fun coming up with other types of patterns too.

 

 

 
  

First swim of the summer!!

We had our first swim of the season in our newly heated school pool today.  It was so much fun!  Since Genevieve, Zach and Grace are new to our school, it was their first swim in our pool. Everyone had heaps of fun!

Under the Sea

Today we made dioramas for our Under the Sea theme.  We made our fish from colourfully patterned paper and then added googly eyes.  Next we used real seashells, fake grass and some sparkly circles for bubbles to complete our underwater scene.  Our beautiful dioramas are now hanging in our classroom window for everyone to enjoy!
 

  

Writing Open Morning

Today was our Writing Open Morning.  We invited our parents and grandparents to join our class to see what we do during Writing.  We began the morning with showing off our beautiful handwriting in our Handwriting books.  Next we sang our guests a great song, Five Oceans, to go with our theme.  (We will try to get it recorded so everyone can see our great singing!)

Then we worked with our guests at varying writing activities.  The Dolphins group used our class laptops to research a sea animal with their parents on the National Geographic for Kids website.  Then they wrote the facts they found into their Writing books.  We even got to print a picture off the website to put into our writing books.

The Giraffes used our class ipads to take a selfie with their guest, and then use that picture to write a story using WriteAboutThis app.  Then they posted their writing on our blog (See posts below)

 The Penguins group used magazine pictures of sea animals to do some great descriptive writing with their guest.

We had a magnificent morning sharing our learning!

Buddy Class

Kea Assembly

Fantastic job today by the Kea team for our school assembly! The children smiled, sang, spoke, acted and celebrated their learning. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who came to watch.

Genevieve and Bruce

Bruce went to visit Genevieve this week.  

He had fun getting to know one of the newest members of our class.

Commonwealth Games

On Friday our whole school participated in the CBS Commonwealth Games. We had so much fun!  Mrs Jeffs and the Year 6 students did an amazing job setting up heaps of different activities for us to do.  There was dancing, gymnastics, hula hoops, high jump, bowls, hockey, badminton, hockey and so much more!  We also got very muddy and even found a few earthworms on the field!
