This week we have been making reindeer art. First Mrs Saleh painted our feet brown. It looked like we had chocolate feet! Then we stepped onto a piece of paper to make our footprint. After it dried we painted a red nose, white eyes, antlers and ears.

Patterns
We are learning about patterns, types of patterns and patterns around us.
We looked around our classroom and found all kinds of interesting and unexpected patterns. Someone noticed how the Guy Fawkes pictures and the fish were an ABAB pattern; someone else noticed how the pegs holding our dioramas were an AABBCCDD pattern; someone else noticed how the chairs around the table were in a pattern.
Next we used anything we wanted from in the classroom to try to make our own ABAB pattern and then an ABCABC pattern. We had fun coming up with other types of patterns too.

Guy Fawkes
All around New Zealand fireworks have been going off for the past week and will likely continue through this coming weekend. Today we found out the reason behind all the fireworks. Today was Guy Fawkes Day. We watched three short child-friendly YouTube movies explaining Guy Fawkes Day, which was really a very sad and unpleasant event!
After we watched the movies we continued working on our mixed media collages. Earlier in the day we had used wax crayons to colour a piece of paper with lots of bright colours. Then we painted over the whole page with black paint. Once it dried we used the end of a paint brush to scratch in fireworks.
We coloured a picture of Guy Fawkes, cut it out and assembled it onto our backgrounds. We are pretty pleased with our pictures.
This is our poem for the week that is also about Guy Fawkes Day.
Remember, remember
The 5th of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
We see no reason why
Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
Here is the playlist of videos we watched.

Under the Sea
Today we made dioramas for our Under the Sea theme. We made our fish from colourfully patterned paper and then added googly eyes. Next we used real seashells, fake grass and some sparkly circles for bubbles to complete our underwater scene. Our beautiful dioramas are now hanging in our classroom window for everyone to enjoy!

Crackles the Clown Job Interview
The Oranges reading group have been reading with Ms Ikiua, our student teacher. In this video three of them are interviewing Anna for the job of Crackles the Clown and Isla is recording the interview. They came up with some very good questions to ask a potential clown. Enjoy the video! (view in Youtube from your computer if it isn't visible in your phone's browser)

The pole by Kahn and London
The pole is long and it is very fast because it is fun. Everyone likes playing on it. One day the year 3's didn't let the year 1's play on the pole.the pole is used for sliding down it. You can sit down on the wood andput your hands on the pole and your feet and put your tummy and slide down it. It is fun and cool.

Technology Challenge
This week is our Technology Interactive Walkabout. All of the children will be visiting other classes to view and try out some of the technology challenges throughout the school.
Our class are exploring the domino effect. We watched some really amazing Youtube videos of ways people have used the domino effect. In our groups we decided what objects we wanted to try. Some of our plans worked and some didn't, so we had to modify our plans or choose a different object. We look forward to sharing our inventions on Wednesday.
Here are a few photos and you can click here to view our Youtube movie of today's efforts or scroll down to the bottom of this post to view it on the blog! It was filmed in slow motion, so it may sound kind of funny! :D
