Music
We are learning to read music, keep a beat and make our music loud or soft. We even took turns being the conductor. Ask us to 'play' this song for you.

Reading Open Morning
Today was our Reading Open Morning. Parents, grandparents and friends were welcomed into the Year One classrooms to observe and participate in our reading sessions.
In our class, we welcomed our guests with a special song.
Then we read our shared big book. Today we looked at punctuation, and in particular, speech marks and speech bubbles.
When it was time for our guided reading sessions, the children were able to show their parents some of the activities that we do during reading.
We had such lovely weather today, that the Oranges group were able to go outside to read and do their activity.
Following our Reading open morning, our guests shared lunch with us outside. We had a fantastic morning. Thank you to everyone who came!

Mother's Day
This week we made our mothers some very special cards for Mother's Day.
First we each wrote our own poem about our mum. We talked about the different names we have for our mums like Mother, Mum, Mama, and Mummy. Then we made a huge list of all the different things our mums do like with and for us like hugging, baking, reading, smiling. Then we made another huge list of adjectives that described our mums like pretty, beautiful, kind, friendly. Lastly we wrote a sentence about something that our mum does with us. We ended our poems with another name for mum. Mrs Nichol typed our poems onto a gift picture that we coloured, cut out and pasted into our cards.
In our cards we have a picture of us with our hands up. One hand is to hold our gift poem and the other hand is to hold our flowers. But we didn't put the flowers in the hand of our picture, no, we traced our hand, coloured them and cut them out. Then we pasted them onto our picture over top of our hand.
Finally we made flowers and stems that we pasted over top of our giant hands. We wrapped our fingers around them to make it look like we are holding the flowers.
We are very proud of our cards and we can't wait to give them to our mums on Sunday. But first we have to sneak them out of our book bags and hide them in our rooms without mum seeing. Shhhhh.....

Bruce the Moose's First Visit
Bruce the Moose went on his first visit this week. He was very lucky to go home with Kahn. Kahn took good care of Bruce and they went to League and Cross fit together. Bruce sure got a lot of exercise at Kahn's house!
Friday afternoon visitor
Mrs Jones came to read some stories to us today. It was lovely to have her visit since we can't go to the library right now while it's being renovated. Thanks Mrs Jones!

Telling Time
This week we have been learning to tell time. We each made our own clock and talked about different clock faces because our clocks look like a face. We are learning to tell time to the hour and half past. It would be great to get extra practise at home by asking us what time it is when it is an hour or half past on the clock. If you have an old clock at home, it would also be great to practise with.
Welcome Bruce the Moose!
We have an addition to our classroom. His name is Bruce the Moose and he is our class mascot. Bruce will be visiting everyone's house throughout the school year. The children will be able to write a story and draw a picture or take a photo to put in the book to share what Bruce did at their house. We look forward to reading everyone's stories.
